KOMPAS.com – Approaching the end of March 2020, several regions in Indonesia are still frequently experiencing heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning.

However, some areas are already transitioning to hot, dry conditions and the sun is shining brightly.

Head of the Climate Information Production and Air Quality Sub Division of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Siswanto said that hot, dry and bright conditions are generally dominant in the dry season.

For the dry season period in 2020, BMKG predicts that a number of regions in Indonesia will enter the dry season next April.

In Indonesia itself, in predicting seasons, whether rainy or dry, the region is divided into 342 Seasonal Zones (ZOM).

Based on forecast information for the 2020 dry season, a number of areas will start the dry season in April 2020 at 17 percent ZOM, namely in small parts of Nusa Tenggara, Bali and Java.

“Most areas will start the dry season in May 2020 with presentations reaching 38.3 percent, in parts of Bali, Java, Sumatra and parts of Sulawesi,” said Siswanto to Kompas.com.

Meanwhile, around 27.5 percent of the remainder will enter the start of the dry season in June 2020, namely in the regions of Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua.

When is the peak dry season?

The peak of the dry season in 2020 is predicted to occur from July to September with different ZOM areas.

The peak of the dry season is a condition where rainfall will be very low.

Meanwhile, around 64.9 percent entered the peak of the dry season in August and 18.7 percent only entered the peak of the dry season in September.
